Mixed Driven Bird Shooting in Burgundy

Mixed bags of partridge, pheasant and duck, walked to from the château door and presented in classic English style by an experienced Irish gamekeeper — across hilly, varied ground built for genuinely fast and high birds.

A Typical Shoot Day

Four to Five drives, shaped around the estate's terrain and a proper pause to enjoy it. Nobody's rushed between drives — the pace is set to the group,.

MORNING

Coffee and breakfast at the chateau, followed by a briefing and the draw for pegs

1st Mixed Drive

The drive commences on gently rolling terrain with a balanced mix of crops and woodland, situated a short distance from the chateau. This valley was selected to provide an early test of the line.

2nd Mixed Drive

This drive takes us through a steeper valley, focusing on game crops. We’ve deliberately set the pace a bit ahead of our break for lunch. Partridges are the stars of the show, bursting over hedges and the guns—driven in the traditional manner. We’re also expecting medium to high fast-flying pheasants.

Elevenses

We will pause for champagne and game snacks cooked over the fire, and a chance to compare the morning’s best birds before the guns move on.

3RD Duck Drive

This drive is incredibly exciting and offers some truly spectacular sport. Most of the duck are clearing the high sequoias in the ancient parkland of the chateau.

Lunch

We’ll head back to the chateau, or perhaps to a spot on the estate if the day calls for it—a proper sit-down meal in the dining room.

4th high pheasant Drive

This is a spectacular and scenic pheasant drive where the birds are only visible for moments producing very challenging Snap Shooting. It’s set in a wooded valley behind the chateau and the kennels.

5th high pheasant Drive

We’ll drive through a large clearing, with half of it being a high wooded ridge from where the birds come soaring overhead. The bag will be laid out and counted with the keeper present.
